CAMEX and Me


The former First Timers Program has been revamped to introduce attendees of all levels to the benefits of the industry’s largest event. Being the new kid on the block, or coming to CAMEX solo, does not mean you’re in it alone. The CAMEX & Me program will allow you to meet up with other attendees and hear tips from CAMEX veterans to make your trip a success. Join us Thursday, March 1, 3:30-5:15 p.m. for this gathering to make your CAMEX a more engaging, rewarding experience. Registration is required but the event is free.

Pre-register by emailing NACS Registrar or register on-site at CAMEX Registration as space allows.

  1. When checking into your hotel ask for the best walking route to the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center or where to locate the hotel's shuttle stop. Also, ask the front desk to arrange for transportation to the airport for your departure flight. If you have arranged a shuttle or taxi separately, be sure to confirm your pick-up before your final day.

  2. In the convention center lobby, visit the “Scan & Go” lines to print your badge. If you are not yet registered, go to Registration.

  3. Stop at the NACS Member Services booth to pick up your CAMEX pin, learn about your member benefits, and meet the NACS staff.

  4. Visit Cyber Café for printing, Internet, and email needs.

  5. Don’t forget a stop at the NACS Foundation booth for your CAMEX shirt, as well as the latest flame pin, and Set the Pace pedometers. Contributions for flame pins and Set the Pace go directly towards efforts that support the campus store industry.

  6. Check out the NEW Virtual Event Bag in the CAMEX Mobile App for discounts and special offers. You will receive an email invitation linked directly to the event bag where you may view, save, and redeem offers.

  7. Visit the NEW Product Showcases & Lounges, interactive product displays in the new category areas on the show floor. Rest your feet and scan the products in each of the Apparel Showcase and Lounge, Gift & Novelty Showcase and Lounge, and the Supplies Product Showcase and Lounge.

  8. Give us your two cents and vote on favorites in the revamped Hot Stuff Showcase & Competition. This must-see stop, located in the lobby Thursday-Tuesday, features best sellers and new releases. Vote on your favorites using the CAMEX Mobile App and see which products are at the top of everyone’s shopping lists.

  9. Also NEW this year, The POP Display Competition has vendors bringing their A game. Check out merchandising and vote on your favorites using the CAMEX Mobile App.

  10. Use your buying plan! Take advantage of exclusive Show Specials. Sort pre-written purchase orders by booth number. Be sure you have two copies of each P.O., to add items or comments and keep a record. Specify delivery dates: “Ship now,” “Ship June 30,” etc.

  11. Everyone at CAMEX is associated with the campus retailing industry, so take advantage of the concentration of peers in one place. One of your peers may have the solution to problems your store is facing. Use #CAMEXShow to search posts on social media.

  12. Ask and offer to share business cards, vCards, or even easier, use CAMEX Connect and the CAMEX Mobile App to share and gather contact information. Note a few highlights of your interaction to help jog your memory later. Or, snap a selfie in front of a specific booth or with a new friend! Don't forget to share your pics using #CAMEXShow.

  13. Work the trade show floor in an organized manner. NEW for CAMEX 2018, the exhibit floor will be organized by four product categories: Apparel, Gifts/Novelty, Course Materials/Store Services/Technology Products, and Supplies (Office, School, Essentials).

  14. Check out the new exhibitors. They will be identified with a “New Exhibitor” carpet cling in front of their booths. If you’re making a purchase from a vendor for the first time, identify your regional rep and get their contact information. Ask if they offer free freight and any minimums. Ask about cancellation and backorder policies. Always include a cancellation date on your order, and take a copy with you.

  15. Ask for a sample if you think a product might sell well in your store. Vendors may not be able to give you something from the display, but may be willing to send you a sample after the show.

  16. Although you may be tired after your long day, don't miss the evening networking events. Meet colleagues and stretch your travel budget with free appetizers or dinners. Evening events to consider: CAMEX Opening Reception on Friday, Networking Reception on Sunday, and vendor-sponsored activities (most are by invitation only; ask your vendor reps).

  17. Pick up two free shipping boxes at Booth #2549. Use this box to ship home all the education and vendor material you collected, courtesy of MBS and UPS. You don’t need to be an MBS client to use this service.
